Narcotics Anonymous was born in California. The first NA meeting took place in the Los Angeles area in 1953, and the state remains home to one of the largest and most active NA networks in the world. California NA groups meet across community centers, recovery clubs, churches, and public facilities seven days a week. Meeting formats include open discussion groups, step study sessions, Basic Text and literature meetings, newcomer-focused formats, speaker meetings, and closed discussion tracks. Specialized sessions covering women-only groups, men-only panels, LGBTQ+-welcoming meetings, Spanish-language tracks, and young people’s formats run across Southern California, the Bay Area, and the Central Valley, ensuring recovery access regardless of background, language, or schedule.
